Who is Eligible for Membership?

Membership in AYO Symphony, Philharmonic and Sinfonietta Orchestras are open to all interested orchestra students (grades 6 - 12) from throughout the Central Texas area – public school, private school, charter school, and homeschool – and will be determined by the audition process. Students from schools with orchestra programs must be a member in their school orchestra and will be verified at the beginning of the school year with their orchestra director. There is $20.00 audition fee to be paid at the time of registration. Membership in the AYO program is contingent upon payment of tuition and return of the completed membership acceptance form with the school orchestra/band director's signature verifying that the student is a member in good standing in the school orchestra/band program. Students must provide their own instruments, accessories, and a pencil for each rehearsal. Music and music stands will be provided by AYO as well as water and occasional snacks.  Austin Youth Orchestra is a year long program and all students who accept a placement in an orchestra are making a commitment for the entire year.  All students auditioning and accepting placement should consider their schedule for the 2019-2020 School Year.  See The Handbook for more details about the Austin Youth Orchestra Program.
