Membership in the Austin Youth Intermezzo Orchestra is open to all interested students grades 3 to 8 who qualify through the audition process. Students from schools with orchestra programs must be a member in good standing in their school orchestra. Membership in the AYO program is contingent upon return of the membership acceptance form with the school orchestra director's signature verifying that the student is a member in good standing in the school orchestra program and payment of the tuition fee.
Julie Allevato has been the Orchestra Director at Gorzycki Middle School in the Austin Independent School District since 2014. She began learning violin when she was eleven years old in Round Rock ISD and under the private instruction of Mr. John Moon. Ms. Allevato joined the Austin Youth Orchestra while in middle school, and continued throughout her high school years. Ms. Allevato earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Sam Houston State University. While at Sam Houston State, she studied violin under Dr. Javier Pinell and Dr. Naomi Gjevre and conducting under Dr. James Franklin and Dr. David Cole. During her studies, she was also a conductor and teacher for the Huntsville Youth Orchestra
Ms. Allevato plays violin for the Starlight Symphony in Kyle and has performed in various ensembles throughout Texas. She also teaches private lessons through the non-profit organization, Kids in a New Groove. Ms. Allevato's professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Orchestra Directors Association.
The Intermezzo Orchestra rehearses on Monday evenings of the fall and spring semesters, 6:00–7:00 P.M.
